{"id":824,"date":"2022-07-20T10:52:13","date_gmt":"2022-07-20T10:52:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/politicsofbeing.com\/?p=824"},"modified":"2022-07-20T10:54:47","modified_gmt":"2022-07-20T10:54:47","slug":"mother-earth-is-a-living-being","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/politicsofbeing.com\/web\/mother-earth-is-a-living-being\/","title":{"rendered":"Mother Earth is a Living Being"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>From the book chapter: <em>Nature<\/em><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&#8220;This declaration was drafted in 2010 during the World\u2019s People\u2019s Conference on Climate Change and the Rights of Mother Earth held in Cochabamba, Bolivia, in which thirty-five thousand people and delegations from more than a hundred countries participated. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">declaration affirms that: \u201cWe are all part of Mother Earth, an indivisible, living community of interrelated and interdependent beings with a\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">common destiny.\u201d It states: The inherent rights of Mother Earth are inalienable in that they arise from the same source as existence [ &#8230; ] Just as human beings have human rights, all other beings also have rights which are\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">specific to their species or kind and appropriate for their role and function within the communities within which they exist. The\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">rights of each being are limited by the rights of other beings and any conflict between their rights must be resolved in a way that maintains the integrity, balance and health of Mother Earth. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">These rights include the \u201cthe right to life and to exist\u201d; \u201cto maintain its identity and integrity as a distinct, self-regulating and interrelated Nature\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">being\u201d; to \u201cintegral health\u201d and \u201cwell-being.\u201d While the text called on\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">the General Assembly of the United Nations to adopt it, this has not yet been the case.
